In the fall, RiverStage presented Puffs by Matt Cox, a hilarious and heartwarming comedy that tells the story of a certain magical school from the perspective of the students who were never destined to be heroes. Filled with clever humor, memorable characters, and fast-paced storytelling, the production celebrated friendship, perseverance, and the importance of finding one’s own place in the world. Audiences of all ages enjoyed this fresh and imaginative take on a familiar fantasy universe.
The holiday season featured A Lewisburg Victorian Nutcracker, presented in partnership with Strictly Ballet and directed by Amy Carter Casimir. Set to the beloved music of P.I. Tchaikovsky, this annual holiday tradition brought together dancers, actors, musicians, and community volunteers to create a magical Victorian-inspired celebration of the season. Through beautiful choreography, festive storytelling, and stunning performances, the production continued its tradition of delighting audiences while showcasing the extraordinary talent found throughout the region.
In February, audiences enjoyed Lend Me a Tenor by Ken Ludwig, one of the most celebrated farces in modern theatre. Set in a Cleveland hotel suite in 1934, the story follows a series of increasingly outrageous misunderstandings surrounding a world-famous opera singer and a highly anticipated performance. Packed with mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and nonstop comedy, the production delivered an evening of laughter and showcased RiverStage’s talent for bringing classic comedic theatre to life.
The spring season featured August Wilson’s Fences, a landmark work of American theatre and one of the most powerful dramas ever written. Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, the play explores family, responsibility, ambition, and the lasting impact of personal choices through the story of Troy Maxson and those closest to him. Through emotionally rich performances and Wilson’s masterful storytelling, the production offered audiences a moving and thought-provoking theatrical experience that resonated long after the final curtain.
The season concluded with Oliver!, Lionel Bart’s acclaimed musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist.
