MILTON, PA – After nine years as Milton’s premier community theatre company, the Milton Area Community Theatre has announced it is changing its name to RiverStage Community Theatre, and is planning an ambitious 10th anniversary season in 2012-13 that will include a musical, plays and a live staged radio drama.
“The group has always welcomed talented performers, volunteers and supporters from all across our region, not just Milton,” said President Jennifer Wakeman,” and we wanted a new name that reflected our ties to communities across the Greater Susquehanna Valley. Building on our years of experience in Milton, we want to let people know that the group is planning to branch out in terms of what types of productions we do, and where we do them.” Last year, the group produced both a summer musical (Jekyll & Hyde) at the Milton Area High School Performing Arts Center and a comedy (Over the River and Through the Woods) at the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg in the fall, directed by Ms. Wakeman. “Staging the play in Lewisburg in addition to our regular summer musical in Milton was fun, and a great success, and so we will continue to expand our reach to bring entertaining, high-quality productions to audiences in our area,” said Wakeman.
RiverStage Community Theatre has added several new board members and will be taking this summer off to work on their restructuring, so there is no musical planned for summer 2012. When RiverStage reopens in the fall, however, they will present at least three different productions and will now offer subscription packages as well as single tickets.
