On Sunday, October 21, RiverStage kicked off its brand new season with a very unusual kind of show: a live staged version of the 1932-33 Marx Brothers radio play, Flywheel, Shyster and Flywheel!
The show capped off a Marx Brothers-themed weekend of movies and gala events at the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg. In front of an audience of over 130, the cast performed two episodes of the hilarious radio show, filled with fast-paced Marx Brothers dialogue and classic vaudeville humor.
The show was directed by Jennifer Wakeman and Daniel Brehm and stage managed by Kathy Coup, and the cast included actors of all ages and experience levels from across the region. Jove Graham of Lewisburg and Brian Lose of Selinsgrove played Groucho and Chico in both episodes, while many actors and actresses played multiple roles large and small. Andrew Shaffer, Donnie Mapes, Kathi Beiter, Dennis Merkle, Fred Martin, Sarah Bell, Brad Wakeman, Jenn Krell, Gloria Lehman, Mary Ann Stanton and Corey Woodcock all lent their talents to make the show a success.
RiverStage Community Theatre thanks the Campus Theatre and the many people behind-the-scenes who worked on the show.
The performance was recorded and will be broadcast at a later date on WVIA 89.9 FM, so check your local listings…we’ll be coming to a radio near you!
