The Pavilion by Emmy-nominated writer Craig Wright (TV’s LOST, Six Feet Under, Brothers & Sisters) tells the story of a 20-year high school class reunion in a small American town, and a man named Peter who shows up with dreams of winning back Kari, his high school sweetheart. Standing in Peter’s way, however, is the fact that Kari still resents him for leaving her, her wealthy husband Hans, and Peter’s refusal to grow up. As the evening progresses, Peter and Kari spar and tangle with each other and with a third person, the Narrator, who plays 16 other colorful characters attending the reunion. The Pavilion was nominated for the Drama Desk Award in 2005 and has been called a “gloriously theatrical treat” that “turns the dramas of ordinary lives into the patchwork pattern of the universe.”
In keeping with the class reunion theme, the show will be performed upstairs in The Lewisburg Hotel, with reunion nametags for audience members and a cash bar available at the intermission of each performance. Friday and Sunday’s performances will be in the grand ballroom on the second floor, while Saturday night’s performance will be upstairs on the fourth floor in a more intimate space. Seating will be more limited for Saturday night’s show, and audience members are advised to purchase tickets early and be aware that only Friday and Sunday’s shows are handicap-accessible.
With a small ensemble cast and an intimate setting, you won’t want to miss this very unique, very special night of live theatre presented in the beautiful Lewisburg Hotel.
“Wright has taken a simple premise and invested it with poetry, feeling and a distinctive voice…. He manages a seamless blend of humor and pathos, philosophy and emotion. The script’s greatest strength lies in the genuineness of its feelings.” -The Houston Chronicle
“Wright’s perceptive, gently witty writing makes a familiar situation fresh and thoroughly involving.” -The Philadelphia Inquirer
